About the Author:

My name is Charles E. (Chuck) Andrews, I am 49 years old and I am in my 27th year of teaching Science at Lawrence Junior High School.  I am a Maine native, and I was born and raised in Waterville, attended Waterville Schools, and graduated from Waterville High School in 1976.  The next 4 years following my graduation from high school I attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Springfield in May 1980 with a B.S degree in Arts and Sciences.

While in college I played soccer ( NCAA-Div. 2), and I was very active in student government, the college singers, jazz band, Mud-Bowl football games, intramural sports, fencing, and travel.   I finished my undergraduate  work at Springfield with a 12 week student teaching practicum at Burlington High School in Burlington, Massachusetts and this was completed just prior to graduation.

I was hired at S.A.D # 49 to teach science at Lawrence Junior High School during the summer of 1980, and I started my first teaching assignment that fall at LJHS.   During my tenure at Lawrence I have taught Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science with the majority of my duties being in the Earth Science area. Outside of my regular teaching duties I have been involved with various groups, plays, committees, Etc...and I have chaperoned 11(eleven) 8th grade trips to Washington D.C. with a fellow blue team teacher (Mr. Groleau), as well as numerous other school related trips.  I have been involved with sports as I have coached Indoor Track (Lawrence High School) both as an assistant and as head coach, and I have been an assistant coach during spring track for numerous seasons.  During the fall from 1980-89 I was the Varsity girls soccer coach at Waterville High School, and I coached girls Junior High soccer here at Lawrence Junior High from 1990-97.   I retired from coaching all sports after 1997 so that I could spend more time following my daughters' school, and sports activities.

My wife Ann, (who is also a science teacher in another school district) and I have been married going on (24 years) and have two children.   We all like to travel, and most anything that involves water sports or just plain being on the water.

Like all teachers I have to take courses to stay current with new educational trends and ideas, as well as new certification mandates.    In January 1998 I  was accepted into the Masters program for computer technology at Thomas College.   With a lot of tenacity, a loving wife (who never saw me during this time), and a bunch of other super-supportive teachers who did this with me, I earned my Master of Science degree in Computer Technology Education from Thomas College in May,1999.

Thank you, and I hope that you enjoy using this website, and that it is helpful to you in some way.

I am a proud professional educator and a life-long learner.
